Quantitative Research: Understanding Numerical Data
What is Quantitative Research?
Quantitative research involves the collection and analysis of numerical data to answer scientific research questions. It relies on a deductive approach, where researchers start with a hypothesis and gather data to test it. Quantitative methods are often used in social sciences, business, and medical research.
Types of Quantitative Data
There are two main types of quantitative data:
- Continuous data: Data that can take on any value within a continuous range (e.g., temperature, weight)
- Discrete data: Data that can only take on specific whole numbers (e.g., number of people, page views)
